Wrap every glass item on its own and stand plates on their edge, not flat. Fill the empty space in the box with paper so nothing can move when the truck goes over a speed breaker.

Keep a first-night bag with medicines, phone chargers, a kettle, a few clothes and important papers. It travels with you, not in the truck, so you are not searching through boxes on the first night.
